History The Stockholm Bank Heist In 1973, one of the strangest bank heists to have ever been documented occurred. It was a failed attempt. The robbers took four hostages into captivity, and they did not release them for six days. They were very kind to the people they were holding under hostage. Within a few days, the hostages began to gain sympathetic feelings toward the robbers. Once the heist was put to a halt and the hostages were released to the authorities, they actually defended the robbers. Somehow during the course of a week, the hostages began to favor the side of the criminals. This psychological effect became known as the Stockholm Syndrome. There are so many twisted philosophies out there that I certainly couldn't confront all of them in one blog post without writing something too lengthy. Tweet Introduction The internet gives people more power than ever before in any time in history. We can literally connect to people all over the worlds. Because of the anonymity of the internet, however, there are many hypocritical gurus in the world. I call these people false prophets. This is the age of reason and truth. Anybody who lies about his or her ability will soon be cast out of society. As Gary Vaynerchuk says, "The Cream always rises to the top." And, it will. You might have the right intentions on starting a business of some sort in order to generate cash. Hell, you might even be trying to start a blog. You must practice what you preach. Tweet Introduction I am going to die one day, and my body will become a star, a planet, a moon, a frog, and a steamy plate of waffle fries. You will die as well. We will both have our eulogies read. The difference between you and I, however is that I wrote my own. =) I learned this from Stephen Covey in his sensational book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People1. I never finished the book, because I got what I needed out of it just by reading this very important piece. You need to take charge of your life. Your dreams matter, and you can make them a reality, but they will never be if you do not take action. Covey's exercise blew me away, because it SHOWED ME how I would die. When you start with the end in mind, something absolutely amazing happens. Most people lay on their death beds experiencing a deep regret. They feel that they could have done so much more, and many wish that they could go back and relive wasted moments. Tweet Introduction One day, each and every single one of us will die. Nobody has escaped death. Nobody ever will. You are not exempt. Neither am I. But, everybody runs from it. Do you want to be great? Do you want to make an impact in the world? Do you wish to be remembered? If so, then you must stop running away and embrace death. Give up the illusion of permanence. The Code of the SamuraibyThomas Cleary1 speaks about this topic in length: "If people comfort their minds with the assumption that they will live a long time, something might happen, because they think they will have forever to do their work. (page 3)" As much as I love the concept of immortality, I think it will do more bad than good. We don't need immortality. The population would soar through the roof. Tweet Introduction Effective time management means everything. In a busy world like today, we need both spirituality and practicality. Sometimes, we have so many goal that we get overwhelmed. We simply do not know how to make the best use of our time in order to effectively pursue all of the goals we have. Having too many goals, however, is not the problem. Prioritizing and lack of proper time use is the problem. You can have, do, or be absolutely anything you desire. Sometimes, we are stuck between two major desires, however. Sometimes we want to tackle two huge goals, but we feel that we do not have the time to accomplish both tasks. The first thing I'll tell you is that it is always best to focus on one goal at a time. Having too many goals is like reading 30 novels at once: you'll quickly lose your place, your focus will be scattered, and you may never finish anything. But, I also know that we waste A LOT of time every day doing things that make absolutely no contribution towards bettering our lives.
